Come escape to the Hibiscus Coast – the home of coastal brilliance. Think: watersport, sunshine and fun. The long, golden beaches kissing the stunningly warm waters of the Hauraki Gulf is perfect for swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding, windsurfing, flying a kite or spotting wildlife.
Te Ara Tahuna / Ōrewa Estuary Path is a peaceful walk and cycleway which follows around the estuary. You’ll find yourself meandering past Māori carvings which illustrate the cultural and historical significance of this area as a place of gathering kai/food.
The tip of the Whangaparāoa Peninsula is the breathtaking Shakespear Regional Park. This place is food for the soul with trails over the park, dipping and diving with the green rolling hills; These trails will take you to many inspiring little pockets!
There is an open bird sanctuary which has been surrounded by a predator-proof fence, allowing species like the little spotted Kiwi to breed and flourish. There are incredible beaches and at Okoromai Bay, there is a visible shipwreck during low tide too!
There is a waterfall accessible via a short track with thick, lush native bush. For nighttime entertainment and a bit of digital detox, walk to the waterfall with torch light – head lamps are helpful for hands free. Once you get there, switch it off and experience the lovely atmosphere and glow worms.
Wenderholm Regional Park
They say getting out into green and blue spaces is good for our overall wellbeing. Well, this easy-going, serene little pocket is certainly delivering on the green and the blue, and is raising the bar of wellness inducing environments, with the lovely, distinctive sprinkling of crimson Pōhutukawa flowers in the summer months.
Sun shimmering off the beach-lapping waters, which stretches out for around 900m of sandy coastline. Pōhutukawa provide a mellow little place to rest out of the sun for a picnic or barbecue. There are 6 wood fired BBQ’s (provide your own wood or charcoal) and 3 electric which you’re welcome to use for free.
There are a range of little paths to take you to the best viewing points in the area. Ranging from shortest to longest – choose from, Couldrey House Lookout walk, Te Akeake walk, Maungatauhoro Te Hikoi, Perimeter Walk.
This little headland is delightfully tranquil and has a gentle way of challenging the everyday in your life – proposing, do you need more ‘life’ in your lifestyle? Come escape to the Hibiscus Coast.
